Is Your Burden Too Heavy to Carry?

There once was a man who had a load to carry to the next town.  His wagon was broken and the load was too heavy to carry on his own.  He looked around for some solution to his need but could not find any. He then began to pray and ask the Lord to send him someone with a wagon to assist him.  He didn’t have to wait long, for no sooner had he finished his prayer, he could see a wagon coming in the distance. He rejoiced, thankful that God had heard and answered his prayer.  The man in the wagon saw the heavy load and asked if the man needed a ride. The needful man thanked him and got into the wagon with his load. The owner of the wagon offered to put the man’s load in the bed of the wagon. The needful man thanked the owner of the wagon for his kind offer but told him, his load was heavy, and it was his to carry. The needful man continued to carry his load all the while riding in the wagon.  Jesus says to casts all our cares upon him….take my yoke upon you and learn from me … and you will find rest for your soul. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. We may know this scripture and we may even pray but we have a hard time laying our burdens down. We are like this needful man.
We resist being yoked. We want to remain free and in control. Jesus has a purpose in yoking with us. It is so we can learn from him.  We are being trained by him. If we are feeling overburdened and weighed down, we are still carrying our load. If we are feeling worried and anxious, we haven’t laid our burden down. Worry or anxious thoughts are a subtle way of doubting God can or will answer our prayer.
When we are yoked with Jesus, he shoulders the load. It becomes his load. We learn to walk and work in step with Him. He promises we will find rest for our souls. He gives us His peace, not a fleeting peace but a peace that surpasses our understanding.  When circumstances come like all that could go wrong, has gone wrong and we have his peace, you know you have cast your burden on the Lord.
