Does Jesus Pray For You?

Have you  ever had a backstage pass to play? You watched how all things have to work together with coordinated effort for it to appear to the audience an effortless production? In Luke 22 we get a such a glimpse. Jesus and his disciples are celebrating the last supper. The disciples argue over who’s the greatest. They are celebrating.  It’s been three years of learning and following Jesus. They’ve witnessed miracles, signs and wonders. They’ve gone about the cities and small towns proclaiming Jesus, even the devils are subject to them. They don’t know it, but it’s all about to change.   Jesus has one more thing to tell them before departing to the garden of Gethsemane  and it’s directed to Simon Peter. He tells him, “Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.  But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31, 32.     Jesus knew his crucifixion was coming and how it would affect his disciples.
He is preparing them disciples for a mighty shaking, so hard it’s going to loosen the chaff from their lives. He is preparing them for later. He knows what Simon Peter is about to do and say. How he’s going to deny him. Jesus admonishes him when he returns, to strengthen his brothers. It’s like Jesus is confirming Peter’s leadership role and letting everyone know that he knows what Peter is about to do, and still chooses him.
Jesus didn’t stop praying for his disciples just because he died and was resurrected. Hebrews 7:25 says Jesus makes intercession on our behalf.   Jesus prays for you, personally, now  Before you know you have a need, Jesus has already prayed. He prepares a way for you. Behind the scenes, interceding.
